Fruits and Veggies

To my horror our daughter does not like vegetables or fruit. Kellen loves vegtables....really...if they are available he will eat them like they are candy. I have learned to enjoy vegetables but I love fruit. Kellen will not eat fruit. Maybe Leah is just getting mixed messages. I don't know but I keep hoping that she is going to catch on that this is good stuff! I mean, really, Kellen and I make some really good vegetables and I am always eating fruit.

So I have decided to put forth a good effort to help her along. I'm going to trick her into loving both! I'm starting with fruit because it seems like it would be easier. My first attempt was fruit fondue. I cut up some fruit and gave her toothpicks to dip it in chocolate pudding. It kinda worked. She ate a few banana slices and then decided to just eat the pudding. This was a bit of success considering I can't normally get her to even eat one bite of a banana!

My second attempt has been a complete success story. Frozen banana popsicles. She gobbles them up. Who would have known? I think next time I'm going to add nuts to the outside to pack some protein with it :) If anyone has any idea for how to get her to eat veggies...PLEASE HELP!

Here's how we have been making them:

1. First I put some sugar-free fat free chocolate pudding in a bowl.

2. Next we break up some skewer sticks and stick them through the cut up banana's. I think about 3 inches of banana is a good serving for Leah.

3. We roll the banana around in the pudding. I just use my fingers. Leah tries to do it with the sick which is usually not very successful.

4. Next we put them on a wire rack on top of a cookie sheet and sprinkle with sprinkles :) This is to guarantee that she will eat them. After 2 hours of freezing I stick each individual popsicle in a sandwich bag.

Those look delicious! I think I'll try it. Looks like a fun, low-calorie, and healthy snack.

Magen,
Hey I just saw your blog on the history on our work computer and I love your insights and pics. I am going to link you to my blog so I remember your address and I can check it out frequently. Anyway, I have an idea about veggies...There is a book by Jerry Seinfeld's wife, Jessica, called Deceptively Delicious, that gives you recipes that include pureed veggies so the foods that Leah eats are actually good for her, but she won't even know she is eating veggies. I had a friend do this to get her husband to eat more healthy and she says you can't even taste the veggies. Just an idea!
See you soon!
